Storm Lake St. Mary’s Students Raise Money to Help Family in Need

Storm Lake St. Mary’s students recently donated money to help a St. Mary’s graduate whose daughter has been dealing with a medical challenge.

Late this past school year, St. Mary’s students held a special day to raise funds for Parker Goodvin, daughter of 2010 St. Mary’s graduate Tasha (Drey) Goodvin. Parker, who turned two years old this week, has been hospitalized for six weeks on bed rest following extensive surgery related to spina bifida, which means “split spine” and occurs during the first month of pregnancy when the spinal column fails to close.

St. Mary’s students had an opportunity to wear jeans on a Friday if they chose to donate between 50 cents and a dollar toward the cause. A total of 625 dollars was raised.

St. Mary’s student, Neely Bacon, commented, “We thought this was the perfect cause for our school to come together and support a former Panther and her family, not only financially but also through our thoughts and prayers. Our school wants to show Tasha and her family love and support!”

The Goodvin Family currently resides in Sioux City. Tasha’s parents, Steve and Jean Drey, live in Storm Lake and are members of the St. Mary’s parish.
