Two executives are joining Boston-based Suffolk’s new sustainability group which is focusing on green building projects.

Steven Burke was appointed senior director of sustainability, while Michael Swenson has joined Suffolk Design, the firm’s design-assist business unit, as its director of sustainability.

Burke was Consigli Construction’s director of sustainability from 2017 to 2023, and founded the Sustainable Construction Leaders networking group. He has experience on more than 30 million square feet worth of construction projects.

Swenson previously worked for BR+A Consulting as a senior associate, providing technical services on decarbonization projects for large campuses. He also held various roles at Harvard University’s Green Building Services division from 2012 to 2018.

Suffolk’s Sustainability Group is overseen by Executive Vice President Nick Dhimitri. Established in late 2023, the division will enhance Suffolk’s leadership in the green building environment, Chairman and CEO John Fish said in a statement.

The firm has recently completed notable sustainable building projects including Boston University’s Center for Computing and Data Sciences, which uses a geothermal heating and cooling system, and Winthrop Center, the Boston tower that’s the world’s largest to utilize Passive House design for its office space.
