Suspected drug dealer arrested after hitting police cruisers

A man who was already wanted on a drug distribution offense in Stafford picked up some new charges Wednesday after he smashed into several police cruisers while trying to avoid arrest, police said.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ryan Wilbur said detectives went to the Warrenton Road (U.S. 17) area that afternoon after receiving information regarding the whereabouts of 36-year-old Jovan Terrell Ellison of Chesterfield. Wilbur said Stafford detectives had been investigating Ellison since last year and had a warrant charging him with distributing illegal drugs.

Ellison was spotted driving in the area of Route 17 and the exit ramp from Interstate 95 south, Wilbur said. Police boxed him in with what is known as a rolling roadblock, and the suspect responded by smashing into at least four cruisers in an unsuccessfully attempt to break free. One deputy received what Wilbur described as a “very minor” injury.

Wilbur said a large quantity of illegal drugs were in Ellison’s possession when he was arrested.

Ellison was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
