“Tap to Pay” on iPhone is now available in Canada, allowing merchants to accept payments using just any payment method.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is a service for merchants who accept payments from customers using only their iPhone. This eliminates the need for additional equipment such as: square leader.

If you’re a local Canadian, today’s news means we may see fewer dedicated payment terminals and more merchants starting to accept payments via iPhone.

Apple shared the following list of launch partners and upcoming support:

Starting today, Adyen, Moneris, Stripe, and Square will be the first payment platforms in Canada to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone. In the coming months, Aurus, Chase Payment Solutions, part of JP Morgan Payments, Fiserv, and Helcim will be offering Tap to Pay on iPhone for customers in Canada. Tap to Pay on iPhone will be available at retailers like Sephora and Apple Stores nationwide later this year. Tap to Pay on iPhone works with contactless credit and debit cards from major payment networks, including American Express, Interac, Mastercard, and Visa.

Tap to Pay on iPhone first debuted in the US in 2022 and has expanded internationally to the UK. France, Taiwan, Australia, Netherlands, Brazil, Ukraineand Japan.

Looking at the list of countries where this feature is already available, it’s strange that it took Canada so long to join the list. Either way, it’s great to see Apple gradually expanding internationally.
