Politics is a business of relationships, but some connections are closer to home than others – quite literally in the case of Ireland’s numerous political dynasties. From the Cowens, to the Haugheys and the Healy Raes it’s very clear that family names still hold weight in Irish politics.

But could their influence finally dwindle as parties opt for celebrity over heritage? Do the “sins of the father” really influence modern voters? Or will legacy trump infamy in the voting booth?

Ellen Coyne is joined by Fionnán Sheahan, Ireland Editor with the Irish Independent, to look at the complicated dynasties that have littered Irish political history, and to ask – what’s in a name?
