The Star Press begins arriving by mail on July 15

Starting July 15, the U.S. Postal Service will begin delivering The Star Press to optimize resources amidst increasing digital readership demand.

The round-the-clock online news cycle has made digital products the first choice for breaking news, and print subscribers are increasingly engaging digitally. As such, The Star Press will be putting renewed emphasis on the printed newspaper as a place readers can dive into local news with more impact and context, feel-good community features, sports analysis and commentary — the stories you can’t get anywhere else.

“All of our readers can access our digital platforms, where they can get the latest news about their communities,” Editor Virginia Black said. “But we know some of our subscribers prefer the printed newspaper, which doesn’t always arrive at your homes on time. Transitioning to postal delivery will ensure consistent delivery.”

Like many other newspaper publishers, Gannett Co. Inc., which operates more than 200 daily local newspapers, including the The Star Press, has already successfully introduced the approach in dozens of markets across the country, and is expanding the initiative.

Just as our distribution teams currently transport our publications to local distribution centers for same-day delivery, with this transition we will transport copies to local post offices, to be delivered same day, according to Gannett. Sunday papers will be delivered in Saturday’s postal deliveries.

“For many years now, the printed newspaper has served as a culmination of the stories that will become our collective history, while our websites and mobile apps deliver the news of the day,” said Michael A. Anastasi, vice president of Local News for Gannett. “We know that by the time our informed readers pick up the paper, they know what happened yesterday — the print newspaper should provide additional context, to help readers better understand their community and the world around them.”

Readers can also visit www.thestarpress.com, as well as to access the eNewspaper, a digital replica of the newspaper at www.thestarpress.com/enewspaper.

Subscribers will receive letters in the mail before the delivery change is implemented. The notifications will also include instructions on accessing digital products.
