Tributes paid to ‘outstanding tradesman’ killed in late-night road crash

The man who was killed in a single-vehicle road crash in County Cork on Saturday has been named locally as Finbarr ‘Finny’ Coleman from Innishannon.

The 40-year-old was a passenger in a car that left the road and hit a tree at Ballynamona, Kinsale, County Cork at around 1.30am on Saturday.

Investigating gardai have confirmed the driver of the car was arrested at the scene but has since been released without charge and that file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The community of Innishannon, between Bandon and Cork city, has been left reeling following the death of Finbarr who was a popular figure in the local area.

“He was an outstanding tradesman who could turn his hand to anything and always done with a smile on his face in his quiet unassuming way,” read one tribute posted on RIP.ie

Mr Coleman was a building contractor in west Cork and was well-known in Road Bowling and GAA circles.

“Deepest condolences to all of Finbarr’s family friends and road bowling friends,” read a tribute posted by Paddoes bowling club Ballygarvan (Cork) while another from the South East GAA Board in Cork added: “Our sincerest condolences to the Coleman family and everyone in Valley Rovers club (Inishshannon) on Finny’s untimely passing. Our thoughts are with you all at this time.

Son of the late Dan and Teresa, Finbarr Coleman is survived by his brothers Brendan, Bernard, Arthur and Anthony as well as other relatives, neighbours and friends.

His funeral arrangements will be announced later.
