Half of the voters are interested in the Mark 6 flagship. Its unique camera setup caught their attention, and its battery life has been significantly improved. By the way, its low display resolution also sparked debate: is 1080p enough for a flagship? Does 4K make sense on such a small display? Why didn’t Sony take the middle option and go for 1440p ? Depending on who you ask, the answers vary.
Sony confirmed that the Xperia 1 VI won’t be sold in the US (whereas the Mark 5 was), nor will it be sold in other regions, but this doesn’t seem to be a big deal, as only 14% of voters were prospective buyers living in those regions.
The 1 VI’s €1,400/£1,300 price tag scared off many potential buyers, but Sony Xperia 10 VI There are bigger problems with it than the €400/£350 price tag, mainly that it’s just not a very good mid-range product – Apple may be able to get away with 60Hz displays in 2024, but an Xperia is not an iPhone.
Recent mid-range models offer 120Hz displays (or better), more powerful chipsets, longer software support (both the 1 and 10 get three OS updates and four years of security patches), etc. The Xperia has its own advantages, like a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD slot, but those are things that only a minority of people care about.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI and 10 VI are available for pre-order now, with shipments expected to start in June.
