Russia bombed a hardware store in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on May 25, killing at least six people and wounding 40, Ukrainian authorities said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as “despicable.”

Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleg Sinegbov said in a Telegram message that two Russian guided bombs had hit the store, killing six people “on the spot,” wounding 40 and leaving 16 missing.

Two of the dead were “men who worked in a hypermarket,” Sinegbov said in a Telegram video.

An AFP journalist saw firefighters spraying water on blazes sparked by the air raids as thick black smoke rose from the burnt-out Epitsentr DIY supermarket on the city’s northeastern outskirts.

Google News Indian officials say at least 24 people, mostly children, died in the fire

A fire broke out at a packed arcade at an amusement park in India on May 25, killing at least 24 people, most of them children, authorities said.

Footage posted on social media, which AFP could not immediately verify, showed raging flames engulfing the building and plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.

Prababu Joshi, district commissioner of Rajkot in the western state of Gujarat, told AFP that 24 people had been killed in the fire, “mostly children”, and six more had been hospitalised.

Google News Four US military ships run aground near Gaza aid jetty

U.S. Central Command (Centcom) announced on May 25 that four U.S. naval vessels supporting a temporary pier built to transport aid to Gaza had run aground in rough seas, and that Israel was assisting with the recovery efforts.

“The vessels have broken free from their moorings and two are currently anchored on the beach near the pier, while the third and fourth are stranded off the Israeli coast near Ashkelon,” the statement said.

“US forces are not entering the Gaza Strip. There have been no reports of injuries and the pier is fully operational,” the statement continued, adding that the Israeli navy was assisting in recovering the vessel.
