You can’t carry over your Steam library if you die

Digital Products Buying is not the same as owning

Amid the never-ending adage that “you don’t own what you buy digitally,” gamers are finding out that they can’t pass their Steam library on to their kids when they die.

Sure, you can give your child your login details and let them play the games on your account, but if you want to legally transfer your games to a loved one after you pass away, there’s no practical way to do that.

This issue also applies to digital movie purchases, music, apps, and other software that can only be used within one app. Essentially, if you can’t find the source files and move them easily, you don’t own the program forever, you only own the license.
